Dragons' Den viewers are in for a treat on the show's latest season as Gary Neville is poised to make his debut in the hot seat.

Or at least that's according to new colleague Deborah Meaden, who referred to the ex-Manchester United defender as 'utterly brilliant' ahead of his debut on the hit BBC series. Pundit Neville is set to join the show's 21st season as one of two 'guest Dragons', with fashion designer Emma Grede the other fresh face.

Neville, 48, will look to lend some of his business expertise after delving into property development, hotels, restaurants and of course media since retiring from football. And viewers have demonstrated their impatience to see the former England international in action in the Den.

"A first next year in @BBCDragonsden when we have some guest Dragons," tweeted Meaden. "First up @GNev2 who was utterly brilliant and owned that chair!!"

Along with owning multiple hotels – including Hotel Football, in partnership with former team-mate Ryan Giggs – Neville is also a co-owner of Salford City. Half of the League Two outfit belongs to Peter Lim, who also owns Valencia, where Neville had an atrocious spell as a manager.

Despite his rampant success in numerous ventures since retiring, not all of the former right-back's decisions have gone down well with fans. The Champions League-winner was torn apart online for his comments regarding 'mini retirements' while appearing on fellow Dragon Steven Bartlett's podcast.

"For instance, this weekend I'm going to Spain, Friday til Monday morning. I call, that's like a mini retirement," he said on 'Diary of a CEO' in May. "It's where I basically say for three days I'm there and I'm basically taking it… I don't think about work, and I will but. . ."

The ex-Premier League star was criticised for failing to spot that he was merely describing a holiday. However, his lack of perspective came off as out of touch with the everyday man, particularly in the current economic climate.

Neville spoke excitedly about his move to the Den and said: "It’s a pleasure to join the Dragons as a guest for the new series and see some of the amazing pitches from budding entrepreneurs from different walks of life.

"It was a privilege to share my knowledge and guidance with the brave entrepreneurs who entered the Den, but you’ll have to wait and see whether I committed to any investments!"
