{"id":296114,"date":"2023-10-13T20:29:53","date_gmt":"2023-10-13T20:29:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/?p=296114"},"modified":"2023-10-13T20:29:53","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T20:29:53","slug":"sturridge-breaks-silence-over-arrest-warrant-for-missing-dog-reward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/soccer\/sturridge-breaks-silence-over-arrest-warrant-for-missing-dog-reward\/","title":{"rendered":"Sturridge breaks silence over arrest warrant for missing dog reward"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Daniel Sturridge breaks his silence after an arrest warrant is issued to the ex-Liverpool star&#8230; slamming the &#8216;false claim&#8217; he owes a\u00a0$30,000 reward to a man who found his dog in 2019<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><span>A warrant was issued after\u00a0Sturridge failed to appear in court in Los Angeles\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>The former Liverpool striker has insisted he was unaware of the court hearing\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off!&#8217;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge claims he was &#8216;unaware&#8217; of a hearing in California, after a warrant was issued for his arrest for failing to appear in court.<\/p>\n<p><span>Mail Sport<\/span> revealed a warrant had been issued for\u00a0Sturridge&#8217;s arrest in connection with a claim he\u00a0owes to a man who says he found his dog.<\/p>\n<p>Sturridge, 34, publicly offered a reward for the safe return of his pet Pomeranian in July 2019 after revealing it had been stolen from his house in LA.<\/p>\n<p>Foster Washington, an American rapper known as Killa Fame, took credit for reuniting Sturridge with his dog Lucci, but said he did not receive the promised payment, leading him to launch a civil lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2021, an LA court ordered Sturridge to pay Washington $30,000 (\u00a324,400) following a default judgment, which came after the ex-Liverpool star did not respond to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/13\/18\/76530701-12628647-image-a-1_1697216581918.jpg\" height=\"634\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Daniel Sturridge said he has instructed lawyers in California to deal with the &#8216;speculative claim&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/13\/18\/15883052-12628647-The_former_Liverpool_striker_was_left_distraught_after_Lucci_was-a-2_1697216835794.jpg\" height=\"636\" width=\"306\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/13\/18\/15883050-12628647-He_made_an_appeal_offering_30_000_for_its_safe_return-a-3_1697216835822.jpg\" height=\"636\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>The former Liverpool striker offered a $30,000 reward for the safe return of Lucci after his dog was snatched at his home in LA back in 2019<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>Sturridge\u00a0was called back to court last month for a \u2018debtor&#8217;s exam\u2019, where he was meant to answer questions on his finances.<\/p>\n<p>He did not attend and court documents seen by <span>Mail Sport\u00a0<\/span>show he has now been served a bench warrant \u2013 a summons issued by a judge to arrest a defendant and bring them before court. A new hearing has been set for November 30.<\/p>\n<p>Sturridge has now addressed the claims, insisting he had only just been made aware of the court hearing.\u00a0The former England claimed he had already paid a young boy who found his dog.<\/p>\n<p>Sturridge said he has instructed lawyers to deal with the matter, hitting out at the &#8216;speculative claim&#8217;.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The news yesterday was the first time my family and I heard that someone is continuing to try to get money from me, following the theft of my family&#8217;s dog, Lucci, which happened 4 years ago,&#8217;\u00a0Sturridge wrote on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The truth is, I personally paid a reward to the young boy who found him. He was delighted with the reward, as were my family and I to get Lucci home. The person seeking payment is not due any money, I already paid the young boy who found Lucci.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I was unaware of the court hearing even taking place. The legal paperwork was sent to the Air Bnb property which we had left within 24 hours of the burglary. Therefore, I have not had the opportunity to properly represent myself in relation to these false claims.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018With that being said, I have now instructed California\u00a0lawyers to deal with matters on my behalf. I met a young boy who found my dog and paid him a reward, which he was delighted with, as was I to get my dog back because he was stolen.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Other people are trying to benefit for their own personal gain. Thank you to the young boy once again. I\u2019m very grateful Lucci is back with our family.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Washington, who claims he has spent more than $10,000 on legal fees, told\u00a0<span>Mail Sport<\/span>. \u2018For me, it\u2019s a point of principle. He promised me the money. It\u2019s a substantial amount of money that could change my family\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He thinks he is above the law. He thinks because he\u2019s rich he doesn\u2019t have to respond to what\u2019s going on. That\u2019s why I had to have the judge issue a warrant so he has to pay the money.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/13\/18\/76530941-12628647-image-a-8_1697217076015.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Sturridge was announced as a Sky Sports pundit but has not appeared since the opening weekend of the season<\/p>\n<p>Thomas Scully, Washington\u2019s lawyer, added: \u2018A lot of people just decide to ignore lawsuits for whatever reason and a lot of times they get away with it because they don\u2019t have any money.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018But it doesn\u2019t seem that Daniel Sturridge should get away with it. He has the money to pay and he has the money to hire a lawyer.
