Napoli are reportedly expected to propose a mutual contract termination with manager Rudi Garcia in a meeting on Wednesday.

It comes following to previous reports in which chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis is said to have admitted that he’s having a ‘bad time’ with the French manager.

Garcia, who previously coached Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr side, only joined Napoli in June after he replaced Luciano Spalletti.

While Spalletti guided them to their first league title in three decades, they have made a slow start under Garcia this season, sitting fifth in the standings – seven points off leaders AC Milan.

La Repubblica, via Tutto Mercato Web, have reported that De Laurentiis will meet with Garcia at Castel Volturno later today and propose a mutual termination of his contract.

This would save Napoli the termination fee of his contract, as well as protect Garcia’s image instead of him getting sacked after just ten games in charge. The possibility of Garcia resigning is seen as the least likely possibility.

According to Repubblica, De Laurentiis said: ‘I am having a bad time with him. I am an entrepreneur and I must be interested in what happens inside the company. The coach and the sports director are at your service.

‘I will make appropriate decisions at the right time. The environment can’t influence me, one must always take time to think.

He added: ‘When you hire a coach who no longer knows Italian football, it’s normal to struggle, the same would have happened to everyone.

‘It’s useless to blame newcomers, football is not like a building under construction, which won’t collapse if you are sure it was built well.

‘Aside from choosing him, my only responsibility is that I could not remain close to him every day at Castel Volturno.’

Antonio Conte is thought to be the clear favourite and is keen to take on the job, having reportedly been considered for the role before it was handed to Garcia.

Conte is believed to be keen to return to management, and is also reportedly open to meeting with De Laurentiis and Napoli officials in order to discuss the project at the Partenopei, and see whether an early agreement can be made.

Having set the tone domestically in Italy last season, Napoli have only won four of their first eight Serie A games this season, losing two and drawing two.
