Buffalo Bills cornerback Taron Johnson called for the NFL field at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to be taken out following their 25-20 defeat by Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Bills lost two key players – All Pro linebacker Matt Milano and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones in the first quarter. Milano suffered a knee injury in a pile-up and Jones a pectoral.

Johnson briefly left the field with a knee injury the second half and Von Miller – who played his first game since tearing his ACL in November – saw his afternoon end early too as a precaution.

‘I think that turf is terrible,’ he said. ‘My foot got stuck in the ground. But I’m OK, thank God.

‘Take that turf out. Especially that one. I’d rather play on grass. I’m sure 90-100 per cent of players would rather play on grass. So I’m not sure why we’re playing on stuff like that. There was injuries on the field today. Some of them really, really bad. I just feel like the turf has something to do with it.’

Bills CB Taron Jones blamed the turf at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for several injuries

Johnson himself suffered a knee injury during the game but went on to confirm he would be ok

Star LB Matt Milano suffered a serious leg injury that may potentially end his 2023 season

Offensive tackle Dion Dawson added: ‘London is doing London things. Hey, they rolled their thing out, that they play on. It was different.

‘Overall I thought the stadium – beautiful. I don’t like turf. Nobody really does, but that’s also not an excuse. The stadium overall – beautiful from top to bottom.

‘You could blame it on so many things, but when it comes down to it the NFL is 100 per cent injury rate. So it being 100 per cent injury rate, it could happen in London, it could happen in a home game. It sucks that it’s taken a couple of our guys today.’

‘Not looking good,’ added head coach Sean McDermott on Milano.

Milano suffered a fractured leg and it is also feared that his season may be over due to a season-ending knee injury as well. He is set to undergo an MRI order to determine if there is damage to his ACL and MCL.

It is the second game in a row that the Bills have been hit by demoralizing defensive injuries. Cornerback Tre’Davious White again out for the season after tearing his right Achilles.

The Jaguars also lost players to injury, with Zay Jones aggravating a knee injury and offensive lineman Walker Little having a knee injury also.

‘I don’t know Zay specifically yet,’ said head coach Doug Pederson. ‘I think it’s still the same injury he had from a couple weeks ago, so we’ll see where he’s at.

‘Walker Little, I believe just a knee at this point, but I don’t have any further updates until probably we get back to the States and do some more investigation there.’

Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones also suffered a pectoral injury during the game in London

The $1.22billion multi-purpose stadium was opened in 2019. It features a retractable, dividing NFL pitch made of 4G field turf with a synthetic turf field below.

Last year Minnesota Vikings safety Lewis Cine suffered a compound fracture of his left leg playing the New Orleans Saints at the stadium last October.

He stayed in England for surgery for over a week after the gruesome injury, making the 4,000-mile flight home after he was medically cleared to do so.

Next week, the Baltimore Ravens play the Tennessee Titans at Tottenham Hotspur.
