Several clubs in England and beyond are monitoring the situation of Birmingham boss John Eustace after the club’s strong start to the campaign.

Birmingham’s win over West Bromwich Albion on Friday was their second in four days and lifted them temporarily to fifth in the table, with 18 points from 11 games, ahead of Saturday’s fixtures. The 43-year-old has yet to be offered a new deal at St Andrew’s.

Mail Sport reported in September that former England captain Wayne Rooney was a possible target for Birmingham should Eustace ever leave. Eustace has long been admired by Swansea and was also considered by Rangers at one stage.

Birmingham – who are part owned by former NFL star Tom Brady – have made a strong start to the season under Eustace heading into the international break.

Eustace signed a contract until 2025 when he replaced Lee Bowyer in summer 2022. With a number of Championship clubs struggling heading into the October international break, Eustace would be high on the list should any opt to make a change.

‘We asked about a new deal. We can sit down and talk about it. We haven’t heard back.

‘Either way, I can take whatever the situation is. I was hoping we would have, either way, at least spoken about it. That hasn’t been the case.’
