Lewis Hamilton claims that he ‘does not have time’ for children as he chases down a record-breaking eighth F1 world title. The 38-year-old’s search is virtually guaranteed to go on for at least one more year, with Max Verstappen just three points away from the 2023 crown.

Hamilton was the dominant force in F1 while Mercedes were in their prime. The Englishman picked up six Drivers’ Championships in seven seasons between 2014 and 2020, with the one he lost out on falling to his Silver Arrows team-mate Nico Rosberg.

With seven titles and 103 Grand Prix wins, Hamilton is statistically the best F1 driver of all time. But a slump in Mercedes’ performance relative to their competitors has left him without a race victory since Saudi Arabia all the way back in 2021.

As he ventures further into the twilight of his career, Hamilton has explained why he is yet to have children during an interview with Blick.

No. I don’t have time for that – I enjoy being an uncle! I haven’t decided on this big step yet.

“I still have goals with the racing car – and everything has to take a back seat. I want to do my job 100 per cent. Of course, you have to find the necessary balance and compromise with your private life. But fortunately that day has not yet come.”

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. More info

Back in August, Hamilton committed his future to Mercedes by signing a contract until the end of 2025, giving the veteran F1 star at least two more seasons to try and topple Verstappen and stand alone at the top of the all-time world title charts.

But Hamilton claims that such an achievement would not necessarily lead to an immediate career change, explaining: “I never said that the eighth title was a stop signal for me. But I’ll only know that when I actually get there.”

After finishing behind Mercedes newcomer George Russell in last season’s points standings, Hamilton has reasserted his dominance in 2023, at least in the Silver Arrows’ garage, by opening up a 75-point lead over his team-mate in the Drivers’ Championship.

With six races to go, Hamilton is currently the best of the rest behind the dominant Red Bulls. And the former McLaren star is within range to make a late challenge on second-place Sergio Perez.
