Eva Lys took to social media to react to one of her unbelievable points after losing a close match to Jelena Ostapenko. The German qualifier branded it the \u201cluckiest shot\u201d of her life as she was forced to apologise to the 13th seed after winning the crazy exchange. But Ostapenko was still able to go on and win 2-6 6-3 6-2.<\/p>\n

Lys had a tough challenge in the WTA 1000 in Beijing after coming through qualifying to reach the main draw. The world No 121 found herself facing one of the top seeds in Ostapenko but she rose to the occasion, storming through the first set for the loss of just two games.<\/p>\n

The world No 17 started the second set on a better note, taking an early break to lead 2-0. But the lucky was still clearly on her opponent\u2019s side as Lys won a shocking point after looking like she was guaranteed to hit an error.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old mis-hit a forehand with the ball flying out of the tram lines on Ostapenko\u2019s side of the net. But the ball managed to clip the top of the net tape and was somehow sent flying well inside the court as a result of the impact, turning into a drop shot.<\/p>\n

The Latvian managed to chase it down and keep the rally going but Lys finished it off a few shots later with a winner that went straight past Ostapenko. The qualifier immediately threw both arms into the air to apologise to her opponent but she still had a huge smile on her face, in disbelief at what had just happened.<\/p>\n

The lucky shot gave Lys some momentum as she was able to break back in that very same game. But Ostapenko went on to regain her lead and later closed out a three-set comeback victory.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After the match, Lys took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to respond to the unbelievable point. \u201chahaha luckiest shot of my lifee,\u201d she said, resposting a video of the fortunate net cord.<\/p>\n

The China Open marked the first WTA 1000 tournament of Lys\u2019 young career after coming through qualifying. The German also made her Grand Slam debut at the start of this season at the Australian Open. And she came into the Asian swing full of confidence, winning her first match at Major level in the first round of the recent US Open.<\/p>\n
