Manchester United’s awful start to the season continued with another desperately disappointing defeat on Saturday and there was one player that Peter Schmeichel was particularly unimpressed by.

United’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford was their fourth in seven Premier League games this season, equaling the dismal record in 1989 that almost led to Sir Alex Ferguson losing his job.

Joachim Andersen scored the only goal of the game with a brilliant strike with boos ringing around the Theatre of Dreams come the final whistle.

The game marked a second start for new signing Sofyan Amrabat, who made his debut in the 3-0 win over Palace just three days earlier.

Peter Schmeichel was unimpressed by the performance of Sofyan Amrabat against Palace

However, United legend Schmeichel was left underwhelmed by the Moroccan’s performance.

‘We talked about Amrabat before the game, it is first full Premier League game and he has just not had a great game so far,’ Schmeichel told Premier League Productions.

‘He gives a silly foul away which leads to this free kick.

‘I expected a Danish player [United striker Rasmus Hojlund] to score at the other end today but for Joachim Anderson to hit the ball like that, what a fantastic goal.’

Amrabat joined United in the summer on loan with an option to buy his start was delayed by injury.

Sofyan Amrabat failed to make an impact as United suffered a shock defeat at Old Trafford

He impressed in the Carabao Cup win over Palace but failed to make an impact in Saturday’s re-run of the fixture.

Schmeichel also absolved goalkeeper Andre Onana of any blame for the goal.

‘We can talk about whether the goalkeeper should have done better, should the defence have done better. Just enjoy this. It is a fantastic finish.’
