Thomas responded by cupping his ear.<\/p>\n<p>He was among the USA players who had chosen to go without a cap on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after\u00a0Rory McIlroy\u00a0refused to acknowledge the &#8216;cheating caddie&#8217; who sparked a major row at the Ryder Cup on Saturday after standing in his eyeline waving his cap ahead of a crucial putt as he headed out onto the green today.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/01\/13\/76036033-12581135-Justin_Thomas_doffed_an_imaginary_cap_to_European_fans_as_tensio-a-2_1696162372208.jpg\" height=\"571\" width=\"633\"><\/p>\n<p>Justin Thomas doffed an imaginary cap to European fans as tensions flared at the Ryder Cup<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/01\/13\/76017225-12581135-The_Northern_Irishman_had_argued_with_Patrick_Cantlay_s_caddie_J-a-8_1696164531740.jpg\" height=\"452\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>It comes after a dispute between Patrick Cantlay&#8217;s caddie Joe LaCava (right) and Rory McIlroy after he stood waving a cap in the golfer&#8217;s eyeline<\/p>\n<p>The final day of the tournament sees the US team embroiled in a scandal amid cheating allegations after the row &#8211; which continued into the club&#8217;s car park late last night &#8211; and an incident in which Thomas appeared to &#8216;kick&#8217; his ball.<\/p>\n<p>Footage seemed to show the former world No 1 kicking his ball while stuck in the rough during the sixth hole of Saturday&#8217;s fourballs.<\/p>\n<p>The dispute involving McIlroy centered around Patrick Cantlay&#8217;s caddie LaCava &#8211; who has 36 years of caddying experience &#8211; and an exuberant celebration which saw him refuse to move out the way for some time, before launching into an angry tirade at the opposition player.<\/p>\n<p>US players turned European fans&#8217; taunting over Cantlay not wearing a hat into their own celebration.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reports suggest the world No 5 has not been wearing a cap in protest at players not being paid to play in the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>In searing sunshine at Rome&#8217;s\u00a0Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, Cantlay and three other USA stars have decided against donning caps.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas opted not to wear one before appearing to play on the drama surrounding McIlroy and Cantlay&#8217;s caddie by tipping an imaginary hat.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/01\/13\/76033343-12581135-Team_USA_s_Patrick_Cantlay_and_his_caddie_Joe_LaCava_walk_across-a-9_1696164544474.jpg\" height=\"444\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Cantlay had been taunted by European fans over his decision not to wear a cap, which reports suggested was a protest over players not being paid\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/01\/13\/76017241-12581135-Rory_McIlroy_launched_into_a_livid_rant_at_someone_while_leaving-a-10_1696164547732.jpg\" height=\"427\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>McIlroy launched into a livid rant at someone while leaving Marco Simone Saturday\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/01\/13\/76036775-12581135-image-a-11_1696164555591.jpg\" height=\"446\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Thomas then poured fuel on the fire by tipping an imaginary hat at the tournament<\/p>\n<p>Xander Schauffele &#8211; who Sky Sports claim is sitting with Cantlay in a separate area of the American locker room amid a split in the camp &#8211; and Colin Marakawa were also not wearing caps on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The United States have refused to comment on whether Cantlay&#8217;s move is a protest towards players not being paid at the Ryder Cup or not.<\/p>\n<p>But the Californian, who also chose not to wear a cap at the last tournament in 2021, denied the reports following Saturday&#8217;s fourballs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The hat doesn\u2019t fit,&#8217; Cantlay said. &#8216;It didn\u2019t fit at Whistling Straits, and didn\u2019t fit this week.
