The Eredivisie match between Ajac and RKC Waalwijk has been suspended after Etienne Vaessen required emergency medical attention following a scary collision on the pitch. Ajax star Brian Brobbey was chasing down a through ball when he collided into Vaessen with the goalkeeper dropping to the floor instantly.<\/p>\n
There was an audible silence inside the ground before the medical team rushed onto the field. According to Dutch media, a defribillator was used and stewards ran onto the field to use blankets to shield the medics from carrying out their care on the goalkeeper.<\/p>\n
Players from both teams were said to be in tears while Vaessan continued to receive medical aid. It was announced soon after that the match would not be resumed.<\/p>\n
RKC Waalwijk wrote on X: “The match has finally been stopped. As soon as we know more, we will get back to you. Thanks for now and have a good trip home.”<\/p>\n

Other Dutch teams began sending their best wishes to the 28-year-old on social media.<\/p>\n
Ajax posted: “This is about more than football. Praying you’re okay, Etienne.”<\/p>\n
Feyenoord wrote: “We\u2019re with you, Etienne. You\u2019ll never walk alone.”<\/p>\n
PSV said: “Etienne, we think of you. Stay strong.”<\/p>\n

More info<\/p>\n Dutch media report that Vaessen was resuscitated on the field before being escorted off the field. The treatment was said to have lasted about six minutes with loud applause from the crowd as Vaessen was stretchered off.<\/p>\n After it was confirmed by the stadium announcer that the game would not be continued, players and staff returned to the field to thank the crowd. Ajax had been winning the match 3-2 after being pegged back twice by RKC.<\/p>\n Steven Berghuis had given the visitors the lead just before the hour mark with the game abandoned in the 89th minute.<\/p>\n
