PGMOL have admitted to a 'significant human error' after Liverpool had a goal incorrectly disallowed for offside against Tottenham.

Nine minutes after Curtis Jones had been sent off for a dangerous challenge following a VAR review, Liverpool thought they had taken the lead when Diaz produced a sublime finish. The linesman’s flag went up but it was tight call and was examined by VAR. They quickly determined that Diaz was fractionally ahead of the last defender when the ball was played.

At no stage during the review were lines seen on Sky Sports’ coverage. Even after the game had finished, footage of the incident with lines drawn on still hadn’t been made available. A statement was then issued by PGMOL which admitted to a VAR system failure.

The statement said: "PGMOL acknowledge a significant human error occurred during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpol. The goal by Luis Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials.

"This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention, however, the VAR failed to intervene.

"PGMOL will conduct a full review into the circumstances which led to the error. PGMOL will immediately be contacting Liverpool at the conclusion of the fixture to acknowledge the error."

Fans were left fuming with one saying: "Nah this game is rigged! That Diaz goal is never offside they didn't even draw the line!!! This next level corruption!"

Another sarcastically added: “Can’t believe it, we’ve not got a decision again.”

A third fumed: “I can't understand how the PL are even going to apologise their way out of this. If this is ruled out then the whole VAR mess needs to go straight in the bin! Best league in the world??? It's a joke!”

Just a couple of minutes after the initial incident, Spurs took the lead through Heung Min-Son, although Cody Gakpo's levelled for the 10 men before half-time.

The Reds were dealt another blow when Diogo Jota received his second yellow card, leaving them down to nine for the final 21 minutes, plus added time. Jurgen Klopp’s side looked set to hold out, only for Joel Matip’s 96th-minute own goal to hand Spurs all three points, but Diaz's disallowed will now be the game's main talking point.
