Daniel Ricciardo looks set to miss next weekend’s Qatar Grand Prix as he continues his recovery from injury.

The Formula One star broke his left hand in a crash during practice for the Dutch Grand Prix in August and has been stuck on the sidelines since.

Having quickly undergone surgery, it was acknowledged that he would miss the subsequent races in Italy and Singapore, but it was hopeful that he would be fit in time for last weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix.

That didn’t transpire, with Liam Lawson continuing to fill-in for Ricciardo at AlphaTauri, Red Bull’s junior team.

And it’s looking probable that next weekend’s race in Losail has come too soon for the Aussie as well, with Red Bull team principal Christian Horner sharing an update on the 34-year-old’s rehabilitation.

‘I would say probably less likely than likely at the moment,’ Horner said when asked by Sky Sports if Ricciardo would return in Qatar.

‘His recuperation is going well but he’s fixed in the seat for next year, does he need to rush a hasty return for Qatar where maybe another couple of weeks for Austin, which is a hell of a bumpy circuit anyway, it might be better to use that time in preparation for Austin.

‘We’ll keep developing him when he goes back into that test and reserve role and he’ll be a candidate certainly for 2025.’
