A former notorious Chelsea hooligan has lent his support to Russell Brand.

A number of women, including a teenager, accused Brand of predatory behaviour in claims detailed in Channel 4 documentary Dispatches. But the comedian denies rape and sexual assault allegations – saying he is being “attacked”by the mainstream media

And Jason Marriner, who used to lead the Chelsea Headhunters gang, believes he was targeted in a similar conspiracy. He was jailed in December 2000 after footage showed him planning an “ambush” in Copenhagen.

The BBC documentary featured undercover reporter Donal MacIntrye who got a Chelsea tattoo to gain Marriner’s trust. Boasting to MacIntrye about bringing hooligans to the midlands, he said on the programme: “We have got about three coaches going and a minibus. It's sorted. It's naughty. Leicester will be naughty.”

His links to the far right were also uncovered when he bragged about shocking Auschwitz visitors by doing Nazi salutes. After being sent to prison, a judge concluded that he “relished violence”.

But following his release, he went on to write a book claiming the BBC exposé was a fake “stitch-up”. He now lives in Thailand where he runs a shop selling British food – and spoke out after the Russell Brand allegations came to light.

Taking to TikTok, he said: “In the latest news, person that I’m not the biggest fan of, Russel f*****g Brand, but let’s have it right. As soon as he starts f*****g bringing other people down and starts stating facts, they want to start making claims don’t they. It’s mental init, do you know what I mean?

“Think they done it to Katie Hopkins, think they done it to Nigel Farage, they are just trying every single way… now I don’t even find the kid funny, do you know what I mean?

“He’s got something to say, he’s got a story to tell, and he’s told it and the establishment ain’t too keen on him are they. It’s amazing that, do you know what I mean?

“But what I can tell you is, now I have been on the back of documentaries haven’t I? It all stinks mate. And what does make me laugh is they are fools out there, actually fools, that believe everything they see.

“See, now speaking on a personal scenario they had 344 hours worth of video footage of me. That is like watching the television for two and half weeks 24 hours a day. An awful lot of footage and that is the best they could pull up.”

Ranting, he continued: “But it ain’t that bad. I got out on a Tuesday, ain’t that bad. But what I am saying is, I have never watched these documentaries tunnel vision but I am afraid people do and there will be some proper dumbos out there, proper fools, that believe everything.

“As we all know, I thought in the UK it was innocent until proven guilty, don’t seem to be the way does it, whether you like him, whether you don’t like him.

“Why is the media made themselves so busy about it? They made a documentary ain’t they, they added and enhanced things and do what they done with me, added things and made up a load of b*****s, said what they wanted to say, planted seeds in people's canisters and people were happy and things like that, do you know what I mean?

“Oh yeah no smoke without fire and this and that and what have you. All b*****s mate, all b******s, absolute getup. As soon as you start fighting against the establishment they don’t like it, and that’s the bottom line I’m not a fan of him, I will put my hands up, if I am wrong, I am wrong.”

Despite now living a much quieter life in south-east Asia, Marriner found infamy again in December last year. His followers found out he had an image of Fusilier Lee Rugby, the British soldier slaughtered to death in May 2013, stuck on his fridge.

And a message alongside it read: “Murdered by Islam on a British street. Forgotten by the media. By the political elite. BUT NOT BY THE PUBLIC.”

Speaking to his thousands of TikTok followers, the hooligan turned author said: “We don't forget Lee Rigby, we don't forget Lee Rigby, ey, we don't mess about on this firm son, you know what I mean.”

He was heavily criticised for the emblazoned image, with Rigby’s loved ones often asking people not to use him in a “divisive” way.
