After last year\u2019s red carpet, the 22-year-old\u2019s social media following doubled overnight, cementing her place as a leading member of the Brownlow new guard. <\/p>\n<p>Last week, the model and influencer dashed to Sydney in between preliminary final and Brownlow preparations for a fashion launch \u2013 a new range by her stylist for tonight, <strong>Paul Versace<\/strong>, in collaboration with Australian brand Bianca &amp; Bridget. But his injury \u2013 which kept him out of the team until Friday night\u2019s preliminary final \u2013 seemed to open an opportunity for the Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli, Melbourne powerhouse Christian Petracca and a host of other contenders.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ffx.io\/images\/$zoom_0.295%2C$multiply_0.7725%2C$ratio_1.5%2C$width_756%2C$x_34%2C$y_0\/t_crop_custom\/q_86%2Cf_auto\/1ffd21b8c19656472bdcc397402594ad8b84a3fe\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\"><\/p>\n<p><span>Nick Daicos missed the end of the home and away season with injury.<\/span><cite class=\"ojLwA\"><span>Credit: <\/span>AFL Photos<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>READ MORE and DOWNLOAD our guide<\/p>\n<h2>A red nod to being green<\/h2>\n<p>I\u2019ve often wondered when the Brownlow would start getting more on board with sustainable fashion, and, it seems, tonight could be the night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Felicity Harley<\/strong>, wife of Sydney\u2019s CEO and former Geelong Cat <strong>Tom Harley<\/strong>, has worked with stylist <strong>Donny Galella<\/strong> on her look, which is a re-wear of an Amanda Tasevski gown that was worn once before, reportedly by a woman attending a wedding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to do something eco-friendly this year,\u201d Galella says. To complete the look, Harley\u2019s clutch and jewels are also vintage.<\/p>\n<p>More, please. <\/p>\n<h2>Top chances: Marcus Bontempelli<\/h2>\n<h2>Who decides who wears what?<\/h2>\n<p>You may be wondering how all this Brownlow business works. In some cases, the stylists and partners have longstanding relationships. <strong>Lana Wilkinson <\/strong>is a good example of a stylist who has worked with the same partners and designers, especially <strong>Sonia Cappellazzo<\/strong>, for many years \u2013 if it works, keep doing it. <\/p>\n<p>But for others, especially the first-timers, it can mean something as simple as a direct message on Instagram. <strong>Georgina Lamont<\/strong> told me that she searched for a designer whose style she liked, which led her to approach <strong>Cassandra Renee Couture<\/strong>, who then hooked her up with stylist <strong>Meggy Smith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Stylist <strong>Paul Versace <\/strong>says he was approached by no fewer than 25 women to dress them tonight, but in the end he\u2019s working with a fraction of that, so he can \u201ccreate a \u2018moment\u2019 for each girl\u201d. While the invitations go out about two months ahead for the team captains, some players aren\u2019t asked until the last fortnight, meaning a scramble for a dress. <\/p>\n<p>For the designers, a good Brownlow means being inundated with requests for wedding gowns and other black-tie commissions, which is why they\u2019re prepared to make the dresses essentially for free. For stylists such as Versace, a good Brownlow \u2013 this is his fourth \u2013 leads to more work, such as for the spring racing carnival. \u201cIt sets you up for event season,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ffx.io\/images\/$zoom_0.252%2C$multiply_0.7725%2C$ratio_1.5%2C$width_756%2C$x_0%2C$y_0\/t_crop_custom\/q_86%2Cf_auto\/618f5b3d04a8c9014f7710e3afd583adfa3db203\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\"><\/p>\n<p><span>Flashback &#8230; white was a big colour trend in 2022.<\/span><cite class=\"ojLwA\"><span>Credit: <\/span>Getty<\/cite><\/p>\n<h2>The calm before the storm<\/h2>\n<p>The Brownlow runs like a well-oiled machine, but to the uninitiated it can look like chaos. <\/p>\n<p>Most of the make-up artists started at 10am, but the stylists were up well before then packing gowns and accessories into cars bound for Crown, where the Brownlow will take place.<\/p>\n<p>The key stylists usually work in a crew with a team of hair and make-up people, plus photographers and videographers to capture the all-important behind-the-scenes content, which has become as big a part of the day as the red carpet itself. <\/p>\n<p>Photographer <strong>Alex Drewniak<\/strong> is working on her third Brownlow, and had set up quite the photographic studio in what would normally be the loungeroom of a hotel suite. \u201cIt\u2019s not often people are wearing gowns of this level [in Australia], so we need to do them justice,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the suite, make-up artist <strong>Chantelle Baker<\/strong> was working on one of her eight women for the day. As far as we know, Judd isn\u2019t attending tonight (according to her Instagram she was recently on holidays in Noosa), but we\u2019ve put together a compilation of her best looks. After all, she put the \u201cgownlow\u201d into the Brownlow.<\/p>\n<p>Judd\u2019s 2008 dress (and many more since) helped catapult the team from J\u2019Aton Couture \u2013 Jacob Luppino and Anthony Pittorino \u2013 from niche (albeit exclusive) bridal designers into a household name. The pair have since dressed celebrities including Cate Blanchett and the Queen herself, Beyonce.<\/p>\n<h2>What can we expect from the fashion tonight?<\/h2>\n<p>Welcome to fashion Christmas, AKA the Brownlow! <\/p>\n<p>Tonight is the culmination of about two months\u2019 work for many of Australia\u2019s top designers, fashion stylists, hair and make-up artists, and all the teams that support them.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m feeling a distinct \u201cchanging of the guard\u201d energy in terms of the number of fresh faces we will see at the Brownlow tonight. Some, like <strong>Georgina Lamont<\/strong> (partner of North Melbourne\u2019s <strong>Nick Larkey<\/strong>), are attending their first count, while others are repeat attendees but, like <strong>Annalise Dalins<\/strong> (partner of Collingwood\u2019s <strong>Josh Daicos<\/strong>) are commanding a greater share of the spotlight.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of trends, a lot of designers have said their focus has been on streamlined silhouettes with cleaner lines.
