Wales winger Louis Rees-Zammit made headlines by copying former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous celebration during the Rugby World Cup, before later revealing the lengths he goes to in order to emulate his inspiration – even wearing Ronaldo’s boxers.

The 22-year-old hotshot is one of the fastest players in world rugby, perhaps learning from Ronaldo’s exceptional pace during his first stint in the Premier League with United, but perhaps risked upsetting his icon by scoring against Ronaldo’s Portugal.

The winger kicked a grubber through and was able to run into the empty space to touch down and score the opening try in Wales’ Pool C 28-8 victory over Portugal. Not only did he risk the wrath of touching down against his idol’s homeland, Rees-Zammit then proceeded to perform Ronaldo’s ‘Siu’ celebration – which saw him subjected to boos from the Portuguese faithful.

But Rees-Zammit explained that his Ronaldo imitation was pre-planned, before going in-depth on how he copies the Al-Nassr star. “Ronaldo is my favourite player,” said Rees-Zammit. “I wear his boxers and I dress like him. And I thought why not do his celebration as well. A few of my mates back home wanted me to do it.
