Trevoh Chalobah’s close friend has labelled Chelsea an ‘absolute mess’ behind the scenes as their injury problems continue to stack up and hinder their start to the season. Mauricio Pochettino has a whole host of players ruled out currently and could field a full XI of stars who are sidelined. It has been cited as a key issue behind their poor performances this season.

Chalobah was linked with a move away from Chelsea over the summer, with Nottingham Forest and Bayern Munich among the clubs to register an interest in acquiring his services. However, the defender ruled that he wanted to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place under Pochettino.

The 24-year-old’s chances of proving his worth were recently handed a significant blow after he sustained a hamstring injury that has ruled him out for the foreseeable future. Chalobah certainly isn’t lonely on the sidelines though as 12 other players are also nursing injuries, including the likes of Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia.

The mounting problems do not appear to be surprising to Chalobah’s friend and personal trainer Ed Hodge though, with an Instagram conversation in the direct messages involving the coach being leaked on X (Twitter).

In a now-deleted screenshot, he said: “Trev has a hammie injury… should be back to 90 per cent sprint ability by end of this week,’ the apparent messages begin.

“Most of the injuries are because the players have been loading muscles time and time again without lengthening them simultaneously… then one lunch into a tackle, or a COD too rapidly and they’re injured. Hardly any of them do reformer Pilates or terrain work (i.e. stair sprints & hill sprints to strengthen knee ligaments). It’s an absolute mess at the moment, bro.”

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. More info

Pochettino made it no secret after his side’s 0-0 draw with Bournemouth over the weekend that he feels that injuries have prevented him from fielding his strongest side and thus results are not reflective of the quality within the squad.

However, Hodge reiterated that his opinion on Chelsea behind the scenes was purely his own viewpoint rather than one shared by Chalobah. He posted on his Instagram story: “To set the record straight, cause people are making things up after a message thread was posted, Chalobah is a friend only.

“I was asked when is he back after his injury and I said what I knew from him. I then said my opinion on why I believe there are so many injuries at Chelsea. It’s my opinion and not Trev’s and it’s not some sort of secret information that the club told me.”
