The Broncos are adding yet another former Oklahoma player to their roster.

Denver is signing former Sooners defensive lineman Ronnie Perkins off of New England’s practice squad, a league source confirmed to The Denver Post.

Perkins, originally a third-round pick in the 2021 draft, has not yet appeared in an NFL regular-season game.

In Denver, he joins a team that has several fellow former OU players in outside linebacker Nik Bonitto, safety Delarrin Turner-Yell, rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. and veteran offensive lineman Ben Powers.

Perkins played on the same defense as Bonitto and Turner-Yell in Norman and also worked with now-Broncos pass-rush specialist Jamar Cain during his college days.

The Broncos had a roster spot open after placing tight end Greg Dulcich on injured reserve Saturday.

Denver must carry Perkins on its 53-man roster for a minimum of three weeks after signing him from another team’s practice squad.

Perkins was drafted No. 96 overall in 2021, just before Denver took right guard Quinn Meinerz at No. 98 and outside linebacker Baron Browning at No. 105.

NFL Network first reported the signing.

Too many flags. Broncos coach Sean Payton on Monday lamented the rate at which his team is racking up penalties, particularly on defense.

Denver has had 19 infractions accepted through the first two games, including 10 that resulted in first downs for Las Vegas (six) and Washington (four).

“We lead the league in defensive penalties called with 12, five personal fouls,” Payton said Monday. “We have a number of plays where we’re off the field on third down but there’s a flag on the turf, there’s holding or defensive pass interference, which makes it an automatic first down. Instead of being off the field … those are turnover penalties.

“We’ve got to be better and more disciplined in that area and that starts with us as coaches.”

Want more Broncos news?
