Mason Greenwood appeared to be targeted by vile chants from Osasuna fans as he warmed up for Getafe during their LaLiga meeting on Sunday – which could lead to the visiting club being punished.<\/p>\n
Greenwood, on loan at Getafe from Manchester United, came off the bench in the 77th minute to make his first appearance since January 2022. The game finished 3-2 to his new side.<\/p>\n
The 21-year-old’s loan move\u00a0to the Spanish top-flight team has divided opinion, and visiting Osasuna fans were keen to voice their opinions towards Greenwood.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Athletic reporter Guillermo Rai posted on social media\u00a0a short clip of the Osasuna fans, in which they appear to be targeting ‘Greenwood die’ chants at the English forward.\u00a0<\/p>\n However, The Athletic report that\u00a0Osasuna are facing potential punishment from LaLiga. The league\u2019s official match observer reportedly heard the chants, with a legal and disciplinary process now set to follow.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Osasuna fans aimed a loud chant against Mason Greenwood as he warmed up for Getafe\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The 21-year-old forward came off the bench for his debut while on loan from Man United\u00a0<\/p>\n Post-match, Osasuna coach Jogoba Arrasate condemned the chanting from his own supporters, but highlighted that the taunts went both ways.<\/p>\n Arrasate said: ‘The chants of \u2018F*** Osasuna\u2019 were very bad and the chants against Greenwood were very bad too. He is a player who, in the end, the justice system had its say.<\/p>\n ‘He is a very good player. But if we talk about chants, we should talk about all the chants, not just some.’<\/p>\n The home fans were excited to see Greenwood make his debut for Getafe, his first game in senior level football since rape charges against him in England were dropped after a key witness pulled out of the investigation and ‘new material came to light’.<\/p>\n Greenwood\u00a0made the switch to Spain on deadline day after it was announced last month that he would continue his career away from Old Trafford.<\/span><\/p>\n Greenwood was suspended by United last year over allegations relating to a young woman after images and videos were posted online and faced charges including attempted rape and assault but the Crown Prosecution Service announced in February this year that the case had been discontinued.<\/p>\n On Sunday he made his first appearance for his new club, coming off the bench with 13 minutes of the contest remaining and the teams level at 2-2.<\/p>\n Greenwood had a hand in the home side’s winner, earning a corner from which Nemanja Maksimovic scored.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Ante Budimir’s penalty for Osasuna had made the score 2-2 before Greenwood’s introduction<\/p>\n Earlier, Stefan Mitrovic opened the scoring for Getafe but Iker Munoz equalised just before half-time.<\/p>\n Jose Carmona headed in to restore the home side’s lead in the 51st minute but Ante Budimir’s penalty six minutes later levelled things up for a second time and that was the extent of the goalscoring prior to Greenwood’s introduction.<\/p>\n Unused substitute Fabrizio Angileri received a red card for dissent in the closing stages but the hosts held on during 10 added minutes to seal the win and maintain their unbeaten home record.<\/p>\n Getafe’s next match is at high-flying Real Sociedad next Sunday.<\/p>\n
