Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has rejected an offer to take charge of the Norway women’s team.

Solskjaer has been out of a role since being sacked at Manchester United in November 2021, just a month shy of three years in the Old Trafford hotseat.

The 50-year-old has been linked with vacancies at Burnley and Leicester but has so far remained patient when it comes to taking a new role.

And he has now turned down an approach from the women’s team of his home nation, who are looking to replace Hege Riise.

‘Yes, I have spoken to the association about the job as national coach, of course I have,’ Solskjaer told Norwegian outlet NRK. ‘They have asked. But I’m not ready for that yet.’

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has rejected an offer to take charge of the Norway women’s team

During his time in charge, Solskjaer guided United to a second-placed finish in 2020-21 but they went out of the Champions League after the group stages that year after suffering a humbling 2-1 defeat against Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir.

The team recovered to make the final of the Europa League, but lost to Spanish side Villarreal on penalties in Gdansk.

Despite narrowly missing out on a European trophy, things had looked promising for United at the end of their 2020-21 campaign, and that summer they added Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to their squad.

It seemed that they could be genuine title contenders after those signings, but their results fell away alarmingly, and this ultimately cost Solskjaer his job.

He was unable to pick up any silverware, unlike his predecessor Jose Mourinho, and could not bring back the glory days that the club enjoyed under Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, it is understood that Solskjaer is ‘satisfied’ with his time as United boss.
