Liverpool fans have taken to social media in delight after watching a Wataru Endo masterclass in Japan's win over Germany.

The 30-year-old former Stuttgart stalwart, who moved to Anfield earlier this month for a fee of £16million, ran the show as Hansi Flick's side suffered a damaging 4-1 defeat.

Endo, who has made three appearances under Jurgen Klopp so far this season, completed 88% of his passes and won all four of his tackles on the night as Junya Ito, Ayase Ueda, Takuma Asano and Ao Tanaka were on target as was Leroy Sane for the hosts.

One Liverpool fan said after the match: "Think it's time for everyone to put some respect on his name." A second added: "Liverpool clearly know what they are doing, bossed Leroy Sane."

Endo moved to the Germany back in 2019 following a spell in Belgium after leaving his native Japan.

Across his 50 caps he has helped his nation to the final of the Asian Cup – and was named their best player for the year of 2022.

The combative midfielder has made one start under Klopp, in their 2-1 comeback win over Newcastle, having also come off the bench in victories against Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

Despite being pleased with the efforts of the Japan international so far, Klopp has also earmarked room for improvement.

He said: "For Endo it is a massive step and change in the way he used to play so that needs a bit of time to get there but it is no problem
