Fighting fans were left reaching for a sick bucket after seeing Fabricio Werdum’s horrific eye injury.

The Brazilian veteran was no stranger to blood or injuries during his time in the UFC. Despite being 46 years old, Werdum took part in his first ever bare knuckle MMA fight at the Gamebred Fighting Championship.

He stepped into the cage to face former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos in Jacksonville, Florida. However, the former champion was on the brutal and bloody end of a Dos Santos pulverising, which ended with the latter securing a narrow split decision victory.

However, the match will be remembered for the horrific injury Werdum suffered.

The Brazilian’s left eyelid was completely ripped open over the course of the match. A doctor had to come into the ring to try and close the gaping hole which left fans and commentators in the stadium feeling repulsed.

“The eyelid is falling off. The eyelid is literally torn open,” MMA broadcaster Sean Wheelock said. “If it wasn't for the blood he could see right through that eyelid.”

The time for talking is almost over as KSI and Tommy Fury will bury their rivarly once and for all as they face off in Manchester on Saturday, October 14th. Logan Paul will also be fighting at the event in front of what is expected to be a sell-out crowd.

Understandably, Werdum did little, if any, post-fight media interviews so he could, presumably, close the gigantic hole over his eye. However, a delighted Dos Santos celebrated his victory and gave an appreciative nod to his familiar foe.

“That was my first time [fighting bare-knuckle MMA] and I loved it, that was amazing,” an elated dos Santos said. “I feel good. Feeling a little sore but I think that’s OK. I’m fighting someone who was really well-prepared. Everybody knows the legend that he is.”

Werdum has not competed in the cage since his PFL clash against Renan Ferreira in 2021 ended in a no contest. Dos Santos also previously beat Werdum when they faced each other in UFC.

He knocked out the hulking Brazilian at UFC 90 all the way back in 2008.
