{"id":291725,"date":"2023-09-08T09:34:05","date_gmt":"2023-09-08T09:34:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/?p=291725"},"modified":"2023-09-08T09:34:05","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T09:34:05","slug":"scholes-asked-about-who-was-better-out-of-himself-and-gerrard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/soccer\/scholes-asked-about-who-was-better-out-of-himself-and-gerrard\/","title":{"rendered":"Scholes asked about who was better out of himself and Gerrard"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Paul Scholes is asked about who was better out of himself and Steven Gerrard, as he admits he &#8216;wouldn&#8217;t be able to do&#8217; what his Liverpool midfield rival did<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Paul Scholes was asked if he was a better player than Liverpool&#8217;s Steven Gerrard<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>The Man United legend hailed his &#8216;team&#8217;, while Gerrard had individual qualities<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off&#8217;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Paul Scholes can&#8217;t answer the question over if he was better than Steven Gerrard, admitting that it relies upon the nature of their two teams at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Football fans continue to argue about the merits of Scholes&#8217; success at Manchester United with Gerrard&#8217;s dominant spell in the centre of the park for Liverpool.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And Scholes, who made more than 700 appearances for the Red Devils across twenty years, believes that the set-ups of both sides was critical in differentiating the pair of them.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scholes was asked on\u00a0Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE if he was a better player than the Liverpool legend, and the 48-year-old replied: &#8216;I can\u2019t answer that. Gerrard. Gerrard\u2019s a great player\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We\u2019re different, we\u2019re very different\u2026 he\u2019s an athlete.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/08\/08\/75203183-12495255-image-a-1_1694159796482.jpg\" height=\"497\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Football fans continue to debate whether Paul Scholes (L) was better than Steven Gerrard<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/08\/09\/75204041-12495255-image-m-9_1694161673471.jpg\" height=\"687\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Scholes could not answer the debate, noting the differences between their respective sides<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I think he\u2019s more of a match winner. But, he was playing in a team where he probably had to be. I was more part of a team. He was more individual I think.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>When pressed on how they would have fared if the situation was flipped, Scholes said it was &#8216;very different again&#8217;, and that they might not have had the same successes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scholes said: &#8216;I wouldn\u2019t be able to do what he did at Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Whether he could\u2019ve done it at United, I don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t see why not.
