Erik ten Hag says Sofyan Amrabat will play in one of two midfield positions following his move to Manchester United.<\/p>\n

The Moroccan completed a season-long loan deal to Old Trafford on Friday, though the move is still awaiting clearance.<\/p>\n

The midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the club throughout the summer and his absence was sorely missed in United\u2019s first four matches, where they\u2019ve lost twice. <\/p>\n

Ten Hag confirmed following the defeat to Arsenal that he wanted to sign a defensive midfielder since the start of the window.<\/p>\n

That would suggest that Amrabat had been signed as a competitor for Casemiro.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

However, the Dutchman says Amrabat is capable of playing further forward, and says he can play in midfield alongside the Brazilian. <\/p>\n

\u2018It was already, from\u00a0the start of the season, one of my wishes to get another [number] six, a holding midfielder, in\u00a0the squad because through the season you need that depth there,\u2019 said Ten Hag.<\/p>\n

\u2018In that position we only had Casemiro\u00a0who can play really well there. With others we have to make compromises but, with Sofryan Amrabat, we have another one.<\/p>\n

\u2018Also he can play alongside Casemiro because he can also play a little\u00a0bit higher on the pitch. So it\u2019s very good to have him and I think he\u00a0fits very good to Premier League football, to Champions League football. I think the\u00a0demands are strong.<\/p>\n

\u2018He is very dynamic, he\u2019s very good in the duels. So we are pleased that we have\u00a0him at United and I think he will contribute to\u00a0our high targets we set.\u2019<\/p>\n

Amrabat was unable to play against Arsenal as he was not registered in time.<\/p>\n

The Moroccan has therefore missed four matches for United this season, but Ten Hag says he\u2019s not \u2018frustrated\u2019 at how long the deal took.<\/p>\n

\u2018No, sometimes you have to wait\u00a0for the right timing,\u2019 said Ten Hag. <\/p>\n
