How Conor McGregor reacted to Justin Gaethje’s latest Twitter taunt

Conor McGregor has reacted to Justin Gaethje’s recent Twitter taunt. Former two-division champion McGregor has set his sights on a showdown with the newly-crowned interim 155lb champion. In a blistering Twitter rant, the Irishman vowed his next fight would be against ‘The Highlight’, who he vowed to butcher.

“It’s me and Justin next as Khabib is the biggest bottle fighter in the game,” McGregor tweeted on Monday. “Guarantee it.”

He added: “Justin, there is no danger in a man that hugs legs, we all know.

“Try and dance around what the real threat is here all you want. I am going to f*****g butcher you.

“Your teeth. I’m going to put them on a f****** necklace. Speak on my skills as a father? You are f*****g dead.”

Gaethje, who defeated Tony Ferguson to claim the interim strap, didn’t shy away from hitting back at McGregor, who he taunted on Twitter.

“Isn’t it ironic that this dude is on his knees,” he tweeted. “Careful @TheNotoriousMMA you are losing your clout.

“@DustinPoirier is sitting there ready to go like I was for the last 3 years. #gaethjevskhabib @danawhite @seanshelby @Mickmaynard2.”

Surprisingly, McGregor refrained from clapping back at Gaethje.

He did, however, laugh at the notion of him losing his “clout”, replying to a story carrying Gaethje’s quotes with a laughing emoji.

Gaethje explained his criticism of McGregor during a recent interview with ESPN, saying: “I tweeted he’s losing his clout.

“I don’t mean in general; with the general public.

“But with fighters, man, this guy – he’s losing so much respect in the game. Which he probably doesn’t care [about].

“But to someone like me, even him, I would assume that matters a little bit. He doesn’t hold the cards right now.

“I put myself in a great position. I asked for a say in my destiny and I went out there and I showed up. And now, I’m in a spot where I can pick between Khabib and Conor.”

A showdown with McGregor would bring Gaethje the biggest payday of his career. Gaethje, however, isn’t motivated by financial gain at this moment of his career.

“If I want to fight Conor, I can fight Conor,” the former World Series of Fighting lightweight champion said. “Believe me. Why wouldn’t Dana [White] put that together? But that’s not the fight I want. His only ploy is he’s Mr. Red Panty Night. Not everyone is a greedy motherf***er like him.”
