The nine-time champion ultimately progressed with a 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-0 victory to set up a third-round clash against three-time major semi-finalist Grigor Dimitrov.

But it is clear there is an issue. Paul McNamee noted after his opening-round win Djokovic is shortening points as a result of his hamstring and this was also evident against Couacaud.

G’day everyone. It’s Roy Ward here and I’ll be taking you through the day six early session today as we almost reach halfway at the 2023 Australian Open.

We have some bumper men’s matches today with favourite Novak Djokovic on court, Andy Murray playing again after his 4am finish earlier this week and two Aussie young guns in Alex de Minaur and Alexei Popyrin.

Places in the fourth round await the winners today so there is plenty at stake.
