Zinedine Zidane has warned Manchester United that Raphael Varane is "untransferable" and will be staying at Real Madrid.
Varane, 27, has recently re-emerged as a target for the Red Devils as boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer searches for a new centre-back partner for Harry Maguire.
The Frenchman has less than two years remaining on his deal with Los Blancos, while the asking price for the World Cup winner is believed to have dipped below £70million.
Varane has won eight major honours in nine seasons with Real, including four Champions League titles, and may be tempted by the opportunity of a fresh challenge.
But he continues to play an important role in Zidane's side, playing 90 minutes in all but one game this season, and the Real boss insists his player is not for sale.
"It's not just me [that wants to keep him]," Zidane said ahead of the trip to Villarreal. "He is part of this club, we were very lucky to be able to bring him to Madrid.

"He has a great career, he's achieved a lot since he's been here. Of course, he is untransferable for the club, for the coach that I am, for people in general.
"That's clear and unambiguous. Now we can't stop people from talking. They're not just talking about Varane, but about all the players, Real Madrid ones and others.
"But for Varane, my position is clear, and it's the same as the club's position."
Varane has come under fire for certain performances this year after he gifted Manchester City two goals in their Champions League last-16 clash and featured in the 4-1 defeat to Valencia in Real's last game.
Los Blancos, currently fourth in La Liga, have the chance to return to winning ways as they travel to second-place Villarreal on Saturday's afternoon.
