Tottenham signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is just what Jose Mourinho needs as he has become more of a team player. That is according to former Denmark manager Age Hareide, who knows Hojbjerg very well and has been following his development in recent years.
The Denmark international joined Spurs from Southampton for £15million following four impressive years at St Mary’s.
Hareide has had issues with the midfielder in the past as the two men had a bust-up in 2016 after the 25-year-old got upset with being taken off in a game against Montenegro.
The incident made headlines across Danish media and Hojbjerg wasn’t called up again for nearly two years but the Norwegian manager still believes in his talent.
Hareide told Norwegian media outlet Nettavisen: “He became more than a team player and that was important to me.

“He may have thought a bit individually at first, he was concerned with himself, but he is a very good team player now.
“I think players often change a lot with experience and age. Then you realise that the team is the most important thing to be good yourself, and not the other way around.
“I reckon that Mourinho intends to use him when he has invested in him. He is a robust player. He’s good with the ball.

“He has been very good in Southampton and was captain of the team there – that says it all.
“He has gradually begun to gain some international experience.
“He is an experienced player who is good at a lot – both duelling games, passing games and technique. He is a very skilled player.
“He deals [with things]. He is good and I think he learns all the time. Pierre-Emile was very young when he started in the Bundesliga, but he has learned all the way and was very central to Southampton’s team.
“He is probably an upcoming type of leader, but is still a relatively young man.
“He has a very strong mentality. He has a very strong mentality in all possible ways.”
Hojbjerg has impressed during Tottenham’s short pre-season preparations and is expected to get plenty of opportunities at Spurs.
