Sancho expressed an interest in joining the Saudi Pro League side – who are managed by Steven Gerrard – after a public fall-out with Erik ten Hag.
Al-Ettifaq offered to take Sancho on loan until the end of the season and United were prepared to let him depart Old Trafford.
But it was later revealed that former Borussia Dortmund star Sancho would not be leaving United.
According to the Daily Mail, one of the reasons the deal collapsed is because United wanted to insert an obligation to buy worth £50m.
They claim that Al-Ettifaq ‘could not afford’ that price as negotiations came to an end.
Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq have already signed Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Demarai Gray this summer.
They had also been linked to Mason Greenwood before Gerrard shut down those rumours and the United striker later joined Getafe on loan.
Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson would not have treated Sancho in the same way as Ten Hag, according to former United striker Teddy Sheringham.
Sancho claims he has been made a ‘scapegoat’ by Ten Hag after being axed from the squad which faced Arsenal on Sunday.
Ten Hag was asked in his post-match press conference to explain the 23-year-old’s absence and revealed publicly that Sancho had been omitted on account of his poor application in training.
