Watford owner ‘finds new people to sack’ one week after handing manager new deal
Watford could be about to pull the trigger on another sacking at the club, but it won’t be the manager this time – despite the Hornets’ miserable start to the season.
The Vicarage Road side have become comically known as a trigger-happy club when it comes to hiring and firing managers, having 21 different permanent and caretaker managers since 2013. However, the club made the seemingly bizarre and untypical decision to back manager Valerien Ismael despite a poor start at Vicarage Road after he was hired in the summer.
Ismael’s appointment at Watford raised some eyebrows after his previous spell in England was a drab eight months at West Brom, made more disappointing by the fact he led Barnsley to a shock Championship play-off finish in the 2020/21 season.

The former Wolfsburg and Besiktas manager was awarded a contract extension recently despite winning just two from 12 games in charge and leaving Watford currently in 20th in the Championship.
Watford seem to be taking a more considered approach this time with their gaffers, but it appears that a sacking is never far from the club, as The Athletic reports that Watford in are discussions with technical director Ben Manga and the recruitment team over their futures, with the likelihood being they will leave the club.
Where do you think Watford will finish this season? Let us know in the comments section.
Manga was appointed in December 2022 to work alongside existing sporting director Cristiano Giaretta but his position has been under review for the last few months and a decision to restructure the department is imminent.
It’s said that eight scouts joined Manga when he arrived from Germany after previously working at Eintracht Frankfurt, and their individual futures are also yet to be decided in what could be a huge culling of the recruitment team.
Watford have begun the season miserably under Ismael with just two Championship wins leaving them two points above the relegation zone. The Hornets look far from a club that is able to compete for a return to the Premier League after they were relegated with just 23 points in the 2021/22 season.
