Video of Phil Jones in tears sees Man Utd fans demand same attitude from others

Phil Jones has been hailed for his attitude, application and performance following his Premier League return against Wolves for Manchester United.

The former England defender made his first appearance for over 700 days after Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly were all ruled out of the fixture.

The 29-year-old put in a solid performance despite the eventual defeat, earning new-found support from the Old Trafford faithful.

Furthermore, Jones was filmed leaving the pitch in tears after making his comeback, rubbing his eyes and tapping the badge in content at his return as fans came stayed behind to clap.

With the clip from the official United account coming alongside the caption: "A milestone that's been 712 days in the making. It meant so much to Phil."

One fan said in response: "The team should be full of people with this much passion."

With a second saying: "Someone who understands and appreciates what it means."

A third continued: "Keep this lad and get rid of the rest of them."

With a fourth writing: "Only player on pitch who cared to play for Utd, rest were a bunch of cowards. Hope Jones gets back to his best."

Ralf Rangnick had plenty of faith in Jones before the performance, and gave a positive verdict when asked about the performance of the former Blackburn man.

He said: "I think he did well, not having played for two years at this kind of level.

"We didn’t see that [effects of the absence] in the game. He did his job and did exactly what I expected him to do."

Next up for United is the FA Cup third-round visit of Aston Villa on Monday, which comes before a Premier League clash against the same opponents.
