Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel’s reaction to Timo Werner’s horror miss was picked up by the cameras – and he was in utter disbelief.
The Blues secured a huge 1-0 victory over the Hammers to boost their chances of a top four finish, giving them a three-point cushion.
Germany striker Werner was the man who made the difference as he scored his first Premier League goal since mid-February to secure all three points.
However, the 25-year-old should have doubled the lead 10 minutes into the second half as he put a his finish into a virtual open goal wide of the far post.
The face of Tuchel on the replays said it all as the tactician looked around in complete wonder at how his star striker had not found the back of the net.
Despite the miss, Tuchel described it as a “strong” performance from Werner in all, though he admitted the gaffe did have a bug impact on his confidence.
“He needs to keep on scoring and catch the moment,” said the German.
“He is quite often involved in our goals, even in the last weeks with fouls in the penalty area, or assists like against Man City. Nothing helps more than scoring goals.
“I felt him very strong today from the start. He was very good at distributing the ball, dropping from the number nine position and keeping the ball for us, and he had good timings in the deep runs behind the line. He was involved in many chances and half-chances.

“It was very nice he could score. He could have had a second one for sure, and after that he lost his confidence a bit and was a bit tired, but it was a good performance from him.”
Chelsea are back in action on Tuesday when they take on Real Madrid in the Spanish capital in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
