Tanguy Ndombele could be set for a return to Serie A after Tottenham reached an agreement with Genoa for a season-long loan.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the newly-promoted side will have their work cut out convincing a player who starred for last season’s champions Napoli.
The 26-year-old has struggled to settle in England following his 2019 arrival from Lyon, failing to show the level of consistency that prompted Spurs to shell out a club-record £65million fee.
Ndombele’s loan return to Lyon was largely uninspiring, but his role in Napoli’s first title win in 33 years teased a return to the Tottenham fold.
But following the arrival of new boss Ange Postecoglou, the French international appears to be out of the reckoning once again.

Ndombele made 40 appearances in all competitions for Napoli last term in a fine loan spell
Genoa, who made an immediate return to the top-flight after their relegation in 2022, are reportedly trying to convince Ndombele of their project under World Cup winner Alberto Gilardino.
Meanwhile, Spurs are keen to resolve the situation before what is shaping up to be a busy transfer deadline for the club.
The likes of ex-Spurs captain Hugo Lloris, Djed Spence, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga and Sergio Reguilon are all expected to depart before Friday.
None have featured for the club this term, mostly recently in Tuesday night’s second round Carabao Cup defeat to Fulham.
