Three left-backs Man Utd could sign before next month’s transfer deadline

Manchester United are closing in on sealing a transfer for Sergio Reguilon after negotiations with Real Madrid reach 'maximum intensity'.

That is according to Marca, who claim the fee will be around €25million (£23m).

The Daily Mail report negotiations between Madrid and the player will intensify this week, as an exit strategy is worked out.

Both Spurs and United are said to be leading the chase, according to the publication, despite interest from Sevilla and Napoli.

The Red Devils appear to have moved ahead in the race for Reguilon, who is hopeful for a buy-back clause included if he leaves Madrid.

However, it has also been reported that United will be offered an alternative to Sergio Reguilon in the form of Porto star Alex Telles.

Agent Pini Zahavi is keen to use the fact Reguilon's move to Old Trafford appears to be off, as he looks to send his client Telles to England instead.

Portuguese outlet A Bola report the super agent is expected to present an offer to United in the coming days.

The Red Devils are unwilling to spend more than £18m on Telles, given he turns 28 this year and is in the final year of his Porto deal.

The Portuguese club have dropped their asking price, meaning a transfer could work for all parties.

United are also reportedly watching Monaco left-back Fode Ballo-Toure, who is under contract until 2023.

The under-21 international would be brought in as a back-up for Shaw, while Brandon Williams would be shifted over the right-back as back-up for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Transfer Window Podcast reporter Duncan Castles this month reported Toure is one of the options being pursued, using the cash was meant to be for Jadon Sancho this summer.

“I’m hearing that United are looking to re-allocate cash into other areas of the team that Ole Gunnar Solskjear wants reinforced and hadn’t been a priority,” he said on the show.

“There was an interest in Fode Ballo-Toure, the left-back at Monaco, he’s young, he’s a French under-21 international, he’s played a lot of games for Monaco but he’s not a guaranteed starter for the entire season, so he’s the type of player who can be brought into the squad and would be satisfied working and challenging for a place, rather than the expectation of being a starter every match.

“There’s a shift there in looking at alternative opportunities if Dortmund are true to their word and won’t sell Sancho."
