Thiago Silva told ‘retire now’ as Chelsea star suffers howler against Newcastle
Palmer outlines biggest issue with London life after Chelsea move
Thiago Silva made history in Chelsea’s trip to Newcastle United on Saturday, becoming the oldest outfield player in the club’s history. But the 39-year-old endured a nightmare afternoon at St James’ Park, topped off by a horror blunder to help Newcastle on their way to an emphatic victory.
Mauricio Pochettino named Silva at the heart of a back four alongside Benoit Badiashile, marking a landmark appearance.
By featuring, he surpassed Dick Spence (39y 57d) – who held the record since 1947 – as Chelsea’s oldest-ever outfield player at 39y 64d.
However, Silva couldn’t inspire Chelsea to a huge three points in the Premier League as Newcastle ran riot on Tyneside.
