‘We knew there were situations that had to be changed’: Thiago Silva reveals players saw Thomas Tuchel’s PSG sacking coming LAST SEASON whilst he was still at the club as former captain backs new manager Mauricio Pochettino to thrive
- Mauricio Pochettino has replaced Thomas Tuchel as Paris Saint-Germain boss
- Former captain Thiago Silva says players knew a change was needed last season
- The German boss was dismissed just four months after Champions League final
- The now Chelsea defender showed support for the appointment of Pochettino
Thiago Silva has revealed he saw Thomas Tuchel’s PSG sacking coming when he was still at the club and the former captain has also backed the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.
The Brazilian defender left the Parc des Prince in the summer to join Chelsea after Tuchel led them to the Ligue 1 title and the Champions League final.
The German was dismissed on Christmas Eve just hours after a 4-0 victory over Strasbourg, and only four months from that narrow final defeat to Bayern Munich.

But former captain Silva has suggested players knew ‘situations had to be changed’ last season and showed support for sporting director Leonardo’s appointment of former player Pochettino.
Silva told French Broadcaster RMC Sport: ‘Mauricio Pochettino did a good job with Tottenham, I think he comes very motivated, 20 years after playing for PSG. He knows the club a bit’.
‘Of course that has changed a lot, but he knows football a lot, he will work with very high level players. I am still a supporter of PSG.’

The veteran added: ‘It’s difficult but it was predictable that this was going to happen. Not now, but being inside, we knew there were situations that had to be changed. In my opinion, Leonardo took the situation in hand, he made his choice.
‘We do not know if it was good, it was not at all for Tuchel and his staff, especially after the match (4-0 defeat of Strasbourg). This change was not planned at this time.’
Former Tottenham boss Pochettino took charge of his first training session on Sunday since being appointed the club’s new manager on an 18-month contract.

Just like Tuchel and PSG managers before him, pressure will be on to deliver the club the coveted Champions League that has so far alluded them despite their big spending on the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
In a statement upon taking over, Pochettino said: ‘I am really happy and honoured to become the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain. I would like to thank the Club’s management for the trust they have placed in me.
‘As you know, this club has always held a special place in my heart. I have wonderful memories, especially of the unique atmosphere of the Parc des Princes. I return to the Club today with a lot of ambition and humility, and am eager to work with some of the world’s most talented players.

‘This team has fantastic potential and my staff and I will do everything we can to get the best for Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions. We will also do our utmost to give our team the combative and attacking playing identity that Parisian fans have always loved.’
