Spurs suffered a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final
‘Chelsea are a really good and important team, they deserved to win. The transfer market can’t solve your situation, it can’t be the only solution because I think at the moment our situation is… In the last years the level of Tottenham has dropped, has dropped a lot.

On Wednesday night he had also reflected: ‘If you compare the two teams there is not a comparison. We are talking about a team ready to win – today we have seen the difference between the two teams. We are a team in the middle.
‘There is a lot of work to do, in this moment, it is very difficult to understand which part you take to improve because there is a lot of situations to improve.
‘We have to be humble, to understand the situation at the moment and continue to work to improve our players, then we will see.’
In truth, Chelsea were far superior than even their 2-0 victory demonstrated on Wednesday night and they could have put the tie to bed.
Tottenham remain a work in progress under the Italian, who replaced the sacked Nuno Espirito Santo.
Conte called on supporters and club management to show patience as he rebuilds the team

‘If Tottenham fans and Tottenham as a club want to see the best Antonio Conte, then you have to give him a chance. We have seen it at Inter and Chelsea, whether he could do it at Tottenham, I don’t know.
‘The level, I feel, is not at the level of Chelsea. Let alone Liverpool, Manchester City or Arsenal. Not there yet.’
