Tottenham Hotspur move to the top of the Premier League table with a hard fought 1-0 win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
Just before the half-time break Yves Bissouma was sent off for a second yellow card offence, as he theatrically dived to the floor under the nose of referee John Brooks.
Micky van de Ven slammed home James Maddison’s short corner in the 52nd minute and Spurs shut up shop for the remainder of the game.
Tottenham reach the summit of the league, however anything other than a draw between Man City and Arsenal would see them drop down to second.
Here, Mail Sport’s Oli Gamp takes a look at the best moments from before, after and during the match at Kenilworth Road.
Micky van de Ven slotted the only goal of the game to give Tottenham all three points away
Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer bundled in for what looked like an opener, but it was ruled out

SAME OLD KENILWORTH ROAD
Tottenham have not played a league game at Kenilworth Road since 1992, but some things have not changed and the club still recognises its most famous fans. Hospitality is still hosted in the Eric Morecambe Suite, named after the late, great comedian who was the club’s most famous supporter decades ago. And the media room is in the Nick Owen suite, named after the 1980s breakfast TV presenter who spent nine years as club chairman until 2017.
LUTON WILL NOT FORGIVE AND FORGET FA
Luton fans have still not forgiven the Football Association for the 30-point deduction in 2008 that led to relegation from League One and an eventual descent into non-league football, before their unique climb from the fifth tier to the top flight. One huge banner in the corner of the main stand reads: “Luton Town, Established 1885, Betrayed by the FA 2008”

Manager Ange Postecoglou will be happy with his side’s 1-0 win as they went down to 10 men
LUTON FANS UNHAPPY WITH LOCKYER GOAL
If any Luton fans are unhappy enough about Tom Lockyer’s disallowed goal to threaten legal redress, they need look no further than the advertising hoarding above the goal in which the Luton captain headed home. It advertised a local firm of solicitors, offering a wide range of legal services.
SPURS UNPOPULAR ‘MUDDY PINK’ KIT
There were audible groans from away supporters when Tottenham players ran out in their drab-looking third kit. Officially called Taupe Haze, the beige-pink combination has also been described as capuccino or simply muddy pink. As one press box wag observed, “It looks like what happens to your Sunday team’s white kit when a rogue brown item is left in the washing machine.”
ANDROS TOWNSEND TRAINS WITH LUTON
Rob Edwards revealed that former Spurs, Newcastle and Palace winger Andros Townsend is training with Luton with a view to signing up. The former England man has been a free agent since leaving Everton last season, and played on Friday for Luton’s development team in their Premier League cup game against Leeds at York. Asked if he might be signing, Edwards said: “He played the full 90 minutes but we’ll see. It has to be right for him, too.”
Rob Edwards side will be frustrated with his side’s loss, they sit just above the relegation zone
