Ten Hag has already decided ‘second and third transfers’ if Man Utd sign Kane

Ten Hag gives Man Utd team news update for Bournemouth trip

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has reportedly been working through his summer to-do list with director of football John Murtough. And while the prioritisation of a new striker is already well known, the pair are believed to have decided the order of their next two priorities, with Ten Hag keen for the club to be speedy about their transfer business.

Doing that may prove difficult unless United’s takeover process gathers pace. Bidders Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani are said to be anxious about concluding their deals as quickly as possible so that transfer planning can begin.

Regardless of who ends up taking charge in the boardroom, The Daily Mail claim that signing a top striker is the club’s undisputed priority. With Victor Osimhen set to cost an eye-watering sum, Harry Kane is widely believed to be the front-runner.

Thrashing out an agreement for the Tottenham captain may not be a quick process, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy expected to resist doing business with a direct rival, and Ten Hag is reportedly keen to complete the majority of his transfer business before his pre-season camp on July 12.

If they manage to cobnvince Kane, the same report explains that United’s ‘next priority’ will be a midfielder. Casemiro has been a smash hit in the Premier League but his disciplinary record is a source of concern, while more squad depth would naturally be welcomed by Ten Hag.

Adrien Rabiot has been linked to Old Trafford over the past 12 months, and Murtough previously went as far as staging talks with his entourage. Things could ramp up a notch this summer as the Frenchman will be available as a free agent, with his Juventus contract expiring at the end of June.

Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice have also been mentioned with regard to the Red Devils, although both pursuits would come with fierce competition and extortionate price tags. Many United fans want Marcel Sabitzer to make his loan move from Bayern Munich permanent, although it remains to be seen whether that would quench Ten Hag’s thirst for a new midfield recruit.

Following a striker and a midfielder, United’s ‘third priority’ is to sign a new centre-back. Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are set to be released at the end of the season, while captain Harry Maguire’s future is in serious doubt.

Those departures could leave Ten Hag light on numbers, and Napoli defender Kim Min-jae has emerged as a serious contender to challenge the first-choice status of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Reports from Italy indicate that the South Korean international has already been ‘convinced’ to sign, and that the transfer is merely a matter of details. Another player that could enter the equation is Jurrien Timber, who has openly admitted that he sees his future away from Ajax, where he previously worked under Ten Hag.
