Sheikh Jassim transfer target has already been turned down by Man Utd

Latest Man Utd takeover news

It recently came to light that Sheikh Jassim is hoping to sign Eduardo Camavinga if his bid to buy Manchester United succeeds. The Qatari billionaire remains in a scrap with Sir Jim Ratcliffe as he seeks power at Old Trafford. And, should that end up happening, the Red Devils could pursue a player they previously turned down under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer just two years ago…

Manchester United are primed to sign a new midfielder this summer.

They know they can’t rely on Casemiro forever as the Brazil international enters the twilight years of his career, despite his impressive debut season at the club.

They’re also uncertain to keep hold of Marcel Sabitzer following his arrival on loan back in January, while Scott McTominay is widely expected to leave.

United are big admirers of Declan Rice, while the likes of James Maddison, Frenkie de Jong and Jude Bellingham have all been linked as well.

But, just recently, it was claimed Sheikh Jassim would love to sign Camavinga.

The Qatari billionaire is continuing to pursue a takeover behind the scenes, despite suggestions Ratcliffe is currently in pole position.

And if United did go for Camavinga, a potential deal would take place nearly two years after he was turned down by the club.

The Manchester Evening News said in 2021 that the Red Devils had two concerns about the France international at the time.

United apparently considered the player to be quite ‘callow’, with the 20-year-old still very much developing at the time.

And it was also claimed the Red Devils had concerns over his lack of Premier League experience.

While Camavinga had been a regular for Rennes prior to his departure, he’d not played abroad by that point.

And, in the end, United ultimately opted to pursue deals for the likes of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo instead of signing the midfielder.

Fast-forward to now, there’s no guarantee Real Madrid would let Camavinga go providing an offer arrives.

They’ve seen the France international shine during his spell at the Bernabeu, while he’s also proven to be a useful member of the squad for Carlo Ancelotti.

Though a natural midfielder, the former Rennes star has also been used at left-back.

And he fared well in that position last week, helping to nullify the threat of Bernardo Silva during his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Camavinga revealed after his move to Real that he’d always wanted to move to the La Liga giants instead of any other team.

“Honestly, the first factor is not money, it is the pleasure of fulfilling a dream I had since I was little,” he said nearly two years ago.

“When I found out that I could sign for Madrid, I didn’t think about it.

“The first factor for me was the pleasure of fulfilling the dream of playing for Real Madrid, playing with footballers who are going to teach me a lot.”

Earlier in the season, there was talk of Camavinga potentially leaving the Bernabeu on loan.

But agent Jonathan Barnett made it clear his client wasn’t interested in a move away.

“He is very happy at Real Madrid. Very good things have happened to him since he arrived,” he said.

And when asked if Real were the perfect team for his client, Barnett added: “100 per cent.

“If you want to be the best player in the world or one of the best, the best thing you can do is play for Real Madrid.”
