Season-ending injury could put Arsenal off transfer after Tierney troubles

Brighton and Hove Albion star Tariq Lamptey has reportedly been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Lamptey suffered a hamstring injury in Brighton's 0-0 draw with Fulham on December 16 and he underwent surgery to fix a tear in his tendon on Saturday.

According to a report from the Athletic, Lamptey could return to training before the end of the current campaign but he will not be fit enough to play in any of the Seagulls' remaining 11 fixtures.

Speaking last week, Brighton boss Graham Potter revealed he was concerned about whether Lamptey would be able to return to action this season.

He said: "In terms of time, there's not that much time left of the season, depending on the state of the injury – at the moment we're not quite sure.

"We need to get to the bottom of it because clearly at the moment we're not quite there with that and it's frustrating for him and it's frustrating for us.

"But we will and he'll come back stronger and he'll be better for the experience.

"We've got to look at it that way, try to be as positive as we can. But clearly there's a concern and a frustration, because he's not available for us at the moment, and I feel for Tariq."

The 20-year-old has impressed at the Amex and he has emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal, with a report from the Mirror claiming the Gunners are eyeing him as a potential replacement for Hector Bellerin.
