Roy Keane was left bamboozled by David Beckham's outrageous spending at Manchester United – but one purchase baffled him more than any other.
Beckham was known for his flashy spending after breaking through the scenes at Old Trafford, with some ex-team-mates saying that he would receive a pay packet on a Friday and have spent it all by Saturday.
Speaking on the new Netflix documentary about his life, Beckham said: "I spent my money. I liked nice stuff. As soon as we got money, I wanted to buy a nice watch.

“I signed a contract with Adidas for £50,000 – and I went and bought an M3 for £50,000."
But the money wasn't all spent on glitz and glamour. Well, that is if you are talking to his former midfield partner Keane, whose mind was blown when Becks bought himself a fancy pen.
Asked about his spending, Keane said: “He was the first to do it. He certainly upped everyone’s game in the car park, I’ll give him that.
“He bought a fancy pen. I was like ‘who the f*** buys a pen? Who buys an expensive pen?’ Shirts and clothes and all that I get, but who buys a pen?"
Beckham's first endorsement deal was with Brylcream hair gel, who hopped on the hype of his varying haircuts.
And as the contracts kept rolling in, so did the extravagant list of belongings that Bekcham owned.
Phil Neville said: “David used to get his salary on a Friday, spend it all by Saturday and then spend the next five days waiting for the next salary to get the jeans to match. That is what he was like. Have money, spend it. Have money, spend it. Have money, spend it.

“Me and Gary (Neville) were like ‘let’s save it for a rainy day’. We used to put money into a pension and David was like ‘what are f*** are you doing?!’"
As Beckham became a brand of his own and something of a celebrity, it became harder for United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to manage him.
“He changed," the Scotsman told the Netflix documentary. "There is no doubt about that. That sort of media attention he was getting, becoming a celebrity, was different to what I wanted.
“Getting David to keep his feet on the ground became more different. He was a good looking boy and he was well cut, so it was a great attraction for the media."
