Roberto Firmino makes final decision on Liverpool future ahead of Man Utd clash

Roberto Firmino has informed Jurgen Klopp he has made a final decision on his Liverpool future.

The 31-year-old joined the Reds nine years ago when Brendan Rodgers was still in charge and has played an integral role in the success Liverpool have enjoyed under the management of Jurgen Klopp.

Firmino formed part of a lethal strikeforce alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as the Reds swept all before them on the domestic and European front between 2019 and 2021.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the season however, Firmino has decided he will call time on his Anfield career in the summer, according to Sky Germany.

The former Hoffenheim star has been reduced to a bit-part role this term due to injuries and with new signings Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo now on board, his starting opportunities are unlikely to increase next season.

Firmino is said to have spoken to Klopp after this morning’s training session and told his long-time manager that he intends to seek a fresh challenge although he is yet to choose his next club.

Liverpool and Firmino, meanwhile, are preparing for Sunday’s heavyweight Premier League clash against Manchester United at Anfield.

A win would prove a huge boost in the race for the top four race and also potentially put the final nail in United’s remote hopes of winning the title.

Speaking ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp said: ‘Yes they [Manchester United] have played a better season than us so far but thank God that means absolutely nothing for the game on Sunday.

‘We have our own targets – yes. It would be a boost, 100% [if we could get a result].

‘We have to make sure we show that it is still incredibly difficult to play against us.

‘When we played there [losing 2-1 in August] it looked incredibly difficult to play against them.

‘We have to make sure that they realise, again, that it really is not a joy to face us.’
