Punter pockets whopping £486k from £5 bet to leave astonished bookies gobsmacked

A punter has landed a "never-seen-before" bet which turned his fiver into just shy of half-a-million pounds.

The Coral customer entered a store in Rotherham last week and placed a 30-leg accumulator on one of their self-service terminals – with the majority being on specific outcomes on football match results and the other five focused on tennis clashes.

Totalling odds in excess of 97,000/1, it was as long as a longshot can get. But one-by-one, the legs were ticked off with Israel's 1-0 win against Belarus and England's 3-1 victory over Scotland during the international break being two of the successful shouts.

With just two games remaining, the Yorkshire man, who asked to remain anonymous, was offered a cash out option of £220,000 by the bookies, roughly 45% of the full payout. He said no, which turned out to be the correct decision.

The final selection, Sporting Lisbon to beat Moreirense with between one and five goals scored in the game, came in as they won 3-0 on home turf on Sunday (September 17) night. Come 10.30pm he was able to celebrate an astonishing victory, which a Coral spokesperson admitted they'd never seen the like of before.

"It's fair to say shock was his first reaction to realising all 30 legs had won, but unsurprisingly he was soon celebrating what he has said is a life-changing amount," they said.

"In over two decades at Coral, I've never seen such an incredible winning bet. To get four or five predictions right is hard enough but to get 30 is extraordinary, and this punter deserves every penny of his £486,000."

It's been quite the week for bet wins, with one acca seeing £8 return £55k and another punter bagging £19k from just a quid. It's not all been success stories though – with a horror cash out costing one footy fan over £30k.
