Premier League ref boss Jon Moss has £5-entry fantasy football league shut down
Former Premier League referee Jon Moss has landed himself in hot water after launching a Fantasy Football league.
Moss has been running a record shop out of Leeds since hanging up his boots in 2022. His store – The Vinyl Whistle – started its own FPL competition with entries priced at £5 for the new season.
The shop website reportedly advertised the competition and even featured the Premier League’s own official logo. And it has raised eyebrows among top flight chiefs due to Moss’ current involvement in the game.

Moss retired from refereeing at the end of the 2021/22 season but the 52-year-old is still actively involved in Professional Game Match Officials Limited – the body responsible for refereeing English football.
He acts as Select Group 1 Manager for PGMOL, meaning his role is to select referees for top-flight matches. It is understood that Moss did not himself have a team in the FPL tournament.
The Daily Mail claimed that one interested observer said: “Not sure it’s a great look for someone who selects who referees games in a league to be running a competition based on it. I’m also not sure the League will be too thrilled to see him using their logo to promote it.”

The league was closed down after the PGMOL were contacted by Agenda. The Premier League declined to comment on the matter.
Moss ended a 23-year career, having officiated over 350 Premier League matches. He also refereed over 100 international games.

The former official immediately took on his current role at the PGMOL alongside his record shop duties. Moss was sent death threats and had his store trashed just days after his final game in charge ended in controversial fashion.
He had waived two strong penalty appeals in the play-off final between Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield in 2022. Forest returned to the top flight thanks to Moss’ decisions while Huddersfield missed out on a £170million cash windfall.
