Former Tottenham player Ossie Ardiles has further stoked suggestions that Mauricio Pochettino is waiting for the Manchester United job by saying his compatriot "knows exactly what he wants to do."
Thursday will mark the one year anniversary of Pochettino's dismissal from Spurs, and he somewhat surprisingly has yet to take another job.
It has been reported that he was twice approached by Barcelona, while he has also been offered roles at both Benfica and Monaco.
But it is United that he has been most strongly linked to, and Ardiles, who is known to be close with Pochettino, appeared to hint that the Red Devils are still very much in his plans.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, Ardiles said: "He has had a few offers, but for one reason or another it’s not happened.
"He’s just waiting and he’s in a very good position, he can more or less choose where to go.
"He knows exactly what he wants to do. Football is his life, so he’s been watching everything and he likes to talk about football.
"He’ll take his time and, before long, he’ll be working again."
Much may depend on how United perform under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the coming months, with the team inconsistent so far this season.
It has been claimed that their executive vice chairman Ed Woodward still wants to give the Norwegian boss more time, and is reluctant to sack him given their close relationship.
However, with Pochettino still waiting in the wings the pressure is on now more than ever, and with United still languishing down in 14th place in the Premier League despite their win over Everton last weekend, that position will have to improve extremely soon.
United host struggling West Brom on Saturday, and anything other than a win will only see the talk about Pochettino grow louder, as the 48-year-old continues to wait patiently for his next opportunity.
