Piers Morgan has ripped into Granit Xhaka and Bernd Leno on social media after the Arsenal pair gifted Burnley an equaliser in their Premier League clash at Turf Moor.

The Gunners took an early lead in the Saturday lunchtime fixture, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s shot creeping in at Nick Pope’s near post after just six minutes.

Mikel Arteta would have been pleased with his side’s performance as the first half approached its end, but five minutes before the interval Xhaka gifted Burnley the most bizarre of equalisers.

In an attempt to play out from the back, Arsenal goalkeeper Leno first put the Swiss midfielder under pressure by playing a short pass to him in the box.

With two defenders fast approaching, Xhaka’s best option would have been to play a first-time pass through the gap between them, where David Luiz was completely unmarked.

Instead, he chose to take a touch out of his and then try to find Luiz, only for the ball to strike Burnley’s Chris Wood and bounce straight into the back of the net.

It was a major blow for Arsenal at the end of a half they largely dominated, and Gunners fan Morgan was quick to brand Leno and Xhaka “dumb and dumber” on Twitter following their calamitous error.

The Good Morning Britain presenter wrote: “FFS. What a stupid bloody goal to concede. Dumb by Leno, dumber by Xhaka.”
