Piers Morgan praises Laura Woods and says ‘she’s better than most of the men’
Piers Morgan has praised football presenter Laura Woods by claiming she is “better than most men”.
TNT Sports presenter Woods was one of several high profile figures to respond to Joey Barton’s criticism of women working as commentators and pundits on 'men's football'. In a non-stop barrage of senseless tweets, former Manchester City midfielder Barton labelled those who support women in the aforementioned roles as “eunuchs” who “need their heads testing”.
The controversial former Bristol Rovers head coach has since gone on to call ex-England international Alex Scott a “really bad player” in another jibe towards female pundits. But Morgan has now come to the defence of Woods.

Woods presented TNT Sports’ coverage of the game between Manchester United and Bayern Munich on Tuesday night. And TalkTV host Morgan addressed Barton’s criticism by stating she is better than most of her male counterparts when it comes to presenting the men’s game.
He tweeted: “Been a lot of debate in the past week about female football presenters & pundits in the men’s game. All I’d say is that after watching @laura_woodsy tonight, I’d say she’s better than most of the men.”
Sky Sports is bringing you 500 live football games to watch, as well access to Cricket, Golf, F1, Boxing, NFL, NBA and more across eight dedicated channels. Sky Sports is the only way to watch all the action this year.

Others on X agreed, writing: “Laura Woods is one of the best presenters about. Quality when she was on TalkSPORT and now smashing it on TNT with the Boxing,” and: “Laura Woods is one of the best in the business.”
Woods had responded to Barton’s original comments by posting on X: “Usually avoid these conversations as I don’t like adding more oxygen. I’ve always got on with Joey. He also sent me a lovely good luck message for TNT in June. Does that make him a eunuch too?"
She later said: “Joey’s entitled to his opinion. If he feels that strongly about women in the men’s game he could ask for a private conversation with the broadcasters & state his case. These tweets only encourage a pile on for the women getting on with their jobs. Or was that the intention?”
Barton has since replied in bizarre fashion, tweeting: “Anyone who wants to come and debate me in this space? All genders are welcome. It will be 2 hours of raw debate. Unedited. Any of you brave enough? @beewestwood and @laura_woodsy. Had a lot to say recently, I’ll do you both in the same sitting if you like. You can team up. I’ll park you both up together.”
