Pep Guardiola turns up to press conference looking ‘like he’s been run over’

Pep Guardiola’s choice of attire for a press conference has left fans wondering if the Manchester City boss had just been run over.

After last weekend’s shock defeat at Wolves, City will be looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they face title rivals Arsenal at the Emirates. Guardiola is renowned for his ahem, 'snazzy' dress sense, including an impressive array of cardigans, which he often dons during matches.

For the pre-Arsenal media call, the Spaniard went casual with a jumper with a pattern which looked distinctly like a tyre track. The outfit prompted plenty of intrigue and praise on social media.

One fan remarked: “Fair play to Guardiola for turning up for his press conference despite having seemingly been run over by a car.” Another asked: “Pep, are those… skidmarks?”

A third quipped: “Fair play to Guardiola… got run over and still did his press conference.”

Sunday’s opponents Arsenal are in the tyre tracks of the leaders ahead of what should be the biggest test for Guardiola’s side so far this season. He said the Gunners, who topped the Premier League for most of last season, were one of their biggest title rivals.

“Arsenal is back to where they were when they fought with Sir Alex [Ferguson’s Manchester United ] team,” said Guardiola. “When I arrive here they were not there and now they are back.

“In the calendar you see when you have to go to the Emirates Stadium. The recruitment they have done is exceptional, with [Declan] Rice and [Kai] Havertz. Absolutely [they are City’s main title rivals], along with Liverpool from what we’ve seen.”

Guardiola confirmed John Stones is unavailable for selection this weekend – despite the centre-half being named in England’s squad for matches against Australia and Italy later this month.

“No, he’s not ready to play,” said Guardiola. “Maybe for the national team, but not us.”
