Pep Guardiola has brilliant reaction when asked about Man Utd’s ‘mentality’

Pep Guardiola does not seem to think too highly of rivals Manchester United's 'mentality' after the Spaniard was left chuckling to himself at Manchester City's pre-Champions League press conference.

Guardiola and Man City begin their Champions League title defence by welcoming Red Star Belgrade to the Etihad on Tuesday night, after dispatching West Ham United 3-1 in the Premier League last weekend.

Conversely, Manchester United found themselves on the end of another 3-1 defeat, this time at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion, who dismantled Erik ten Hag's side at Old Trafford for the fourth time in a row in the Premier League.

Ahead of Man City's clash against Red Star, Guardiola sat down with the media for his pre-match press conference, where he outlined how impressed he was by Mikel Arteta's Arsenal and Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, who look set to compete for the Premier League this term.

"We will have downs in the season… but to start the season that way and some teams are taking the distance now," said Guardiola, before adding: "But how strong is Arsenal? I saw their win at Goodison Park, they are exceptional. And Liverpool again, their mentality is continuing there."

However, one reporter then interjected, simply asking the Manchester City boss: "Manchester United?" And it appears as though Guardiola found it funny to even put ten Hag's side in the same conversation as the likes of Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

The Spaniard could be seen having a laugh before quickly responding: "Well, they don't start how they expect like Chelsea but always they are Man United, they are Chelsea, they will take the rhythm" clicking his fingers while speaking.

And it's safe to say that Man United certainly aren't having the season they would expect to be having so far, despite the season being young. So far this term, Man United have won just two of their opening five Premier League games, beating Wolves 1-0 on the opening week of the season.

They followed that up with a 2-0 defeat to Ange Postecoglou's Spurs, before producing a come from behind 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.

However, prior to the international break, the Red Devils lost 3-1 to Arsenal, and then returned last weekend to domestic action where they were easily dispatched by Brighton.
