Patrick Bamford called ‘cheat’ twice by commentator as fans say ‘what a man’

Patrick Bamford was twice dubbed a 'cheat' during commentary of Leeds' Championship contest against QPR – and fans were loving the brutal honesty.

The 30-year-old, who made an appearance for the England senior side back in 2021, was adjudged to have gone down easy during the closing stages as Leeds took all three points thanks to Crysencio Summerville on Wednesday. The fury took place late on as Bamford got Asmir Begovic sent-off as QPR's struggles deepened.

Taking place in the 94th minute of the contest with Leeds winning 1-0, Bamford went down under very minimal or no contact after flicking the ball past Begovic just outside the box – going down over some outstretched studs. The co-commentator then said: "Oh there's no touch! He's a diving cheat."

Bamford then lined up the free-kick as his new commentary friend added: "Bamford the cheat will take the free-kick, left-footed from the edge."

Nick London was the man with the strong opinion sat next to Andy Sinton in the commentary booth for QPR+ and their own iFollow stream of the contest – with all Football League clubs having their own feed.

One response from a fan said: "The commentator in Leeds vs QPR absolutely killed me, what a man." A second added: "More commentary like this please."

One fan backed the forward by saying: "Although there was no contact. Begovic’s studs were high towards Bamford's thigh, Bamford was forced to take avoiding action & fell over."

The result leaves Leeds sixth in the table with four wins from 10 matches, 16 places above struggling QPR, who have two wins to their name.

Bamford, who came off the bench in the victory, is yet to score so far this season having made two appearances on his return from injury.

The best season of his career came back in 2020/21, scoring 17 times across 38 Premier League appearances.
